David Friend Recital Hall Concerts

June 22 - Whistle Bone — Faculty guitarist Ed Blomquist presents his new band
performing mostly improvised originals blending influences from progressive
rock, alt-Country, free jazz, world beat and experimental electronica. Russel
Lane, drums and percussion , Jim Buhrendorf, guitars and lap steel; Jim
Whisenant on Chapman stick, bass and laptop and Blomquist on electric guitar,
bass and laptop.

June 23 - Concert for Anna — Faculty vocalist Lisa Thorson presents an
evening of spirited jazz originals and standards dedicated to Lisa’s mother: a
birthday tribute and musical thank you. Original lyrics penned by Lisa to jazz
classics will be included along with compositions by A.C. Jobim, Edu Lobo, Frank
Foster, Charlie Parker, Thorson, Charlie Haden and others. Lisa will be joined by
faculty member Doug Johnson, Piano, Dan Greenspan, bass an d George
Schuller, drums.

June 24 - Sisters of Swing — Ear Training department Assistant Chair Roberta
Radley presents an evening of song and groove by vocalists Ruth Ristich and
faculty member Gaye Tolan Hatfield with piano accompaniment by faculty
member Tony Germain. Jazz compositions and standards by Cole Porter, Duke
Ellington, Jerome Kern, Irving Berlin and Charles Mingus will be presented in
vocal jazz setting.

June 29 - The Acid Reggae Xperience 4tet and Friends - Faculty pianist Matt
Jenson performs his brand of contemporary and classic Reggae.

July 12 - Nicholl & Farquharson-Live with Strings — Longtime collaborators
bassist Michael Farquharson and pianist Matthew Nicholl will present a concert
of original music. For this concert the duo will be joined by drummer and Berklee
alum Mauricio Zotarelli, woodwind player Daniel lan Smith, and a string quartet of
Berklee faculty: Matt Glaser, Mimi Rabson, violins; Melissa Howe, viola, and
Eugene Friesen, cello. Farquharson and Nicholl have each written several pieces
for the ensemble to premier that night.

July 15 - Dan Bowden

July 19 - (some of my favorite tunes are) Straight Ahead — Using an out-
standing ensemble of Berklee Faculty and area professionals, this concert will
expand from a soulful saxophone bass duet to hard charging Latin jazz and funk
Under the direction of saxophonist Randy Felts, a four piece horn section will
feature faculty members David Johnson and Billy Thompson and the rhythm
section will feature Martin Vasques, drums, Steven Barbosa, percussion, Bass
Department Chair Rich Appleman and Dr. Stanley Sagov, piano.
