David Friend Recital Hall Concerts

April 1- [4:00 pm]-Exits and Flags — Faculty
percussionist Bertram Lehman presents con-
temporary jazz and world music for trio and
percussion. Featured performers include
pianist Vardan Ousepian and special guest
Lamine Toure, master drummer from
Senegal.

April 1- [7:30 pm]-The Singer Showcase —
Percussionist/marimba player Jonathan Singer
presents contemporary and classical music by
John Cage, Steve Reich, and J.S. Bach as well
as Indian Classical drumming for tabla, mri-
dangan and other percussion.

April 4- Composition Department Student
Awards Concert- The concert will feature
pieces by student composers Akinobu Sato,
Chandra Cogburn and Lucas Vidal for small
chamber ensembles.

April 5 — Meredith Monk - Artist-in-Residence
in the Writing Division, renowned composer
and vocalist Meredith Monk presents a clin-
ic/demonstration.

April 7 — Milton Babbitt - Renowned compos-
er Milton Babbitt visits Berklee as part of the
Faculty Development program.

April 11- Ed Bedner Students’ Piano Recital-
A solo piano recital presented by students of
Professor Ed Bedner.

April 12- 4:00 pm - NOIR persents “The
Ibrahima Drum” — Guitar department faculty
member Chris Buono hand the group NOIR--
Chris Tarry, bass, Andy Sanesi, drums, Jason
Scott, tenor sax, Jesse Selengut, trumpet—
bring the tale of The Ibrahima Drum to
Berklee. The band’s performance is a recount
of a compelling narrative penned by Selengut
that is interwoven with dark and funky com-
positions affording the musicians room to
delve into deep improvisations.

7:30 pm - Bruce Saunders Quartet featuring
Rob Thomas — Faculty guitarist Bruce
Saunders presents original jazz for quartet in
cluding faculty bassist Bruno Raberg and
drummer Take Toriama with special guest
faculty violinist Rob Thomas.

April 13- [4:00 pm] Jane Miller - Faculty
Guitarist’/Composer Jane Miller leads a quar-
tet featuring guitar, piano, bass, and drums.
The group plays contemporary jazz instru-
mentals composed by the leader as well as
some arrangements of music by other com-
posers in the jazz and popular music genres.
Some acoustic guitar will be featured as well
as the more traditional jazz electric guitar.

April 13 -7:30 pm - Dave Fiuczynski & Dave
Tronzo — Two iconoclastic guitar titans named
Dave join forces in a show of slide and fret-
less guitar, free form blues and eastern
melodies, Moroccan tinged grooves and
straight ahead mans featuring faculty gui-
tarists David Fiuzynski, Dave Tronzo with
bassist Mike Rivard and drummer Bertram
Lehman.

April 14- [4:00 pm] - Jon Wheatley/John
Wilkins

April 14- [7:30 pm] — Bret’s Frets — Bret
Willmott presents his students playing con-
temporary jazz.

April 15 — Garrison Fewell — Faculty guitarist
Garrison Fewell presents original and stan-
dard jazz.

April 19 - 1:00 pm - Music of the Crusaders
- Faculty saxophonist Dan Moretti leads this
student ensemble through the best of the
soul/funk jazz pioneers, The Crusaders with
compositions and arrangements by Joe
Sample, Wayne Henderson, and Stix Hooper.
