SPRING 1988
OTTO’S MOTTO —Faculty bassist Bruce Gertz co-leads a quartet
with saxophonist Jerry Bergonzi playing original jazz compositions.
Rounding out this outstanding group are Adam Nussbaum, drums,
and Andy Laverne, piano.
CLIFF WITTSTRUCK & FRIENDS/SLED DOGS ON PARADE —
Faculty guitarist Cliff Wittstruck presents a nine-piece ensemble per-
forming jazz, rock, blues and funk compositions. In the second half,
a quintet led by faculty guitarist Jim Kelly will perform original jazz
and rock compositions by faculty saxophonist Jim Odgren and Kelly.
THE SECRET/EXCALIBUR—The first part of this two-for-
one concert features acoustic jazz for a trio led by faculty pianist
Laszlo Gardony. In the second half Ear Training Department faculty
member trumpeter Brian Lewis leads a 17-piece big band in a pro-
gram of contemporary jazz.
PRONE TO OBSESSIVENESS—Afro, Latin, jazz and rock styles will
be featured in this program directed by Jazz Composition Department
faculty member trombonist Bob Pilkington who will lead a small
group and a salsa big band.
THE LATIN JAZZ UNION/BRUNO RABERG GROUP —Faculty
bassist Irving Cancel leads his seven-piece Latin jazz group in a pro-
gram of compositions by Duke Ellington, McCoy Tyner and Cancel.
In the second half a quintet led by faculty bassist Bruno Raberg will
perform contemporary jazz originals with special guest guitarist
Mick Goodrick.
FACULTY PIANISTS’ NIGHT —Piano Department Chairman
Paul Schmeling presents his faculty performing in a rhythm section
with various guests.
TOGETHER WE WORK, TOGETHER WE PLAY—The Ensemble
Department faculty get together to perform bop, contemporary jazz
and fusion styles in a variety of instrumental settings under the direc-
tion of Chairman Orville Wright.
THE MUSIC OF PRINCE SHELL—Faculty saxophonist Allan Chase
presents the arrangements of Prince Shell performed by a faculty
big band.
SOUND ADVICE w/Anne Marie Moss— Commercial Arranging
Department faculty Dennis Grillo presents a 25-piece ensemble with
special guest jazz singer Anne Marie Moss performing concertized
jazz and Latin Styles.
