Berklee Performance Center Concerts

FALL 1992

“EL CAMARON” DIED!Y/ENVIRONMENTALLY SAFE—Original jazz
compositions by saxophonist Jaime Fatis will be performed by
different size ensembles from duo to big band. In the second half,
saxophonist/composer Rudresh Mahanthappa presents his trio per-
forming experimental and avant-garde jazz in the syle of Omette
Coleman, David Liebman, and Steve Coleman.

SOUND TALK/THE STREAM OF GREEN—Pianist/composer/
arranger Michiko Takatani presents all original jazz for her nine-
piece ensemble. Then Yusuke Yamamoto, playing mallets and per-
cussion, presents his septet performing original contemporary jazz.

JOHN BABOIAN & FRIENDS/BOPSIMATHY—Faculty guitarist

John Baboian presents original mainstream and contemporary jazz
compositions performed by his eight-piece ensemble including faculty
members Dan Harrington, woodwinds, Roy Okutani, trumpet, Victor
Mendoza, vibes, and Ron McWhorter-Mahdi, bass. In the second

half, a contemporary acoustic jazz trio/quartet under the direction

of faculty guitarist Stephen Rochinski performs originals and
compositions by Tim Hagans and Bob Dogan with faculty pianist
Suzanna Sifter.

SVITI SAVA/THE WAY I SEE IT—Drummer Marko Djordjevic pre-
sents his trio performing original compositions inspired by Yugoslav
music. In the second half, pianist Sasi Shalom and his quintet, Modus,
performs jazz rock originals with Middle Eastern influences.

OFF-SPRING/THE CHRISTIAN VER HALEN DOUBLE BAND—

Violinist Tomoko Iwamoto presents a string quartet performing jazz
standards and original compositons and arrangements with special

guest String Department Chair Matt Glaser. In the second half, guitar-

ist Christian Ver Halen offers original compositions containing jazz, -
R&B, and world music in a blend of musical styles performed by a
double-sized band including Teodross Avery, saxophone, and Marc
Miralta, drums.

BUSTER WILLIAMS AND GARRISON FEWELL—ASs part of this year’s /
Bass Week activities, renowned acoustic bassist Buster Williams will 4
perform jazz in duet with faculty guitarist Garrison Fewell.
