Odd Meter Master Class
1140 Boylston Street, Room 1A
This interactive session will explore odd meter improvisation.
Each presenter will lead a different band and discuss the
particular demands of each tune or meter. There will be
plenty of time for participants to ask questions and make
comments. Whether you are a seasoned odd meter player or
a relative newcomer to odd meters looking to expand your
rhythmic vocabulary, you are sure to pick up new ideas and
inspiration.

Charlie Christian stands at the epicenter of American
music. His guitar playing continues to inspire musicians in
idioms ranging from jazz, to rock, to country. In this session,
participants will listen to a wide range of solos from the
master, learn to sing a few of them, study the rhythmic
content of his lines, discuss the ways in which Lester Young
influenced him, and generally celebrate his genius. Let’s all
become Christian scientists!
