THE PERFORMERS
Guitar/ Rubbertellie JON DAMIAN, Faculty
Guitar BILL FRISELL, Hoboken, NJ
Bass JOHN VOIGT, Boston, MA
Percussion TAYLOR MacLEAN, Jersey City, NJ
Drums TED SAJDYK, FEaston, MA
y WELCOME!
It's nice to be back at the Berklee Performance Center. It
18 a chance to share some more of my musical ideas with my friends.
There will be quite a variety of pieces presented. The improvisa-
tional concepts range from the traditional harmonic framework to
pure melodic forms to the use of what I call environmental improv-
isational pieces -- works inm which the performers improvise a char-
acter(s) either animate or inanimate, to portray a scene musically.
Having played the standard guitar for some years as an impro-
visor I wanted to explore another instrumental medium. I chose the
"Rubbertellie". It is a totally standard Telecaster guitar, abso-
lutely no additives, but approached in a totally non-standard way.
It is held differently, played differently, tuned quite different-
ly, hende the conceptual prefix '"rubber'" to indicate that it has
stretched the traditional boundaries of the instrument.
My very special thanks to Bill for schlepping all the way from
Hoboken to bring us his beautiful talents and to the guys for help-
ing to bring this music to life. Thanks to Betsy for her total
support, Julie and Mary for thier camera talents and to the Berklee
staff. Without their creative energy none of it could happen.
And thanks to you for being the recieving element so nesses-
sary for the completion of the art form we are exploring.
