2019 Berklee Signature Series

Distant Worlds: Music from Final Fantasy

Boston Symphony Hall

Grammy-winning conductor Amie Roth leads the Berklee Contemporary Symphony
& Orchestra (Julius P. Williams, artistic director) through a captivating and specially
concelved program of Distant Worlds: Music from Final Fantasy for the show's triumphant return to
Boston's celebrated Symphony Hall. Launched in 2007, in conjunction with the 20th anniversary of
Final Fantasy, this concert tour features the music of video game composers Nobuo Uematsu and Yoko
Shimomura, as well as vocalist Susan Calloway as a guest soloist. This multimedia experience shows
stirring screen images—direct from game developer Square Enix-that reflect the soaring emotions of
a symphony orchestra and chorus performing music selected from the entire Final Fantasy catalogue.



Singers Showcase: Aretha, Queen of Soul

Joined by a full rhythm section, horns, background vocalists, dancers, and special
guests, Berklee's most outstanding lead vocalists and vocal groups will interpret
Aretha Franklin's rich canon. Produced by Maureen McMullan, this concert will feature the inspirational
and powerful music that became the soundtrack to the lives of so many, including “Respect,” “Think,"
"(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman," “Chain of Fools,” "Rock Steady,” "I Say a Little Prayer," "I
Knew You Were Waiting (For Me)," and many more. The undisputed Queen of Soul, Franklin was one of
the few artists who not only defined their times but transcended them. A recipient of the Presidential
Medal of Freedom, she was also the first woman inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Luciana Souza w/ Berklee Global Jazz Ambassadors

Grammy-winning vocalist Luciana Souza returns to her alma mater. She will be mentoring and
performing with the Berklee Global Jazz Ambassadors, a group of graduate students in the Berklee
Global Jazz Institute. The performance will be broadcast as a part of WBGQ's the Checkout-Live at
Berklee. The concert will include new and older pieces by Souza.

Sylvia Rhone Tribute Concert

Berklee's Career Jam culminates in a concert celebrating Sylvia Rhone, “godmother of the music
industry,” and many of the genre-spanning, world-renowned artists she has launched and worked with
throughout her career. Led by musical director Rob Lewis ‘94 (Christina Aguilera, New Kids on the Block,
Toni Braxton), the concert will feature Berklee students performing the music of Missy Elliott, J.J. Fad,
Tracy Chapman, Lil Wayne, and Camila Cabello.
