Berklee Performance Center Concerts

October 16 — The Lazlo Gardony Trio

— Faculty pianist Laszlo Gardony, faculty
bassist John Lockwood and Assistant Chair
Percussion department Yoron Israel will
perform originals as well as original arrange-
ments of standards which feature original
harmonizations, grooves, improvisations,
arrangements and a lot of interplay between
trio members.

October 17 — Syncopation Vocal Jazz Quartet
- Pop, jazz, and standards in four-part har-
mony featuring vocalists faculty members
Christine Fawson, David Thorne Scott, as
well as alumi Tsunenori “Lee” Abe, and stu-
dent Aubrey Logan will be performed with a
rhythm section.

October 18 — Tom Appleman - Jazz and funk
will be performed under the direction of
faculty bassist Tom Appleman. Mainly instru-
mental music with a vocal tune or two, with
tunes by the Headhunters, Medeski, and
Galactic as well as originals from Appleman
and his bandmates.

October 22 - Alexis Graspas/Juan Ospina -
Alexis Graspas presents his group performing
contemporary original jazz. Then Colombian
pianist/composer Juan Ospina presents a
series of original compositions written while
enrolled in the Jazz Compositions major

at Berklee tastefully blending Colombian
rhythms with jazz elements.

October 23 - The Ayn Inserto Jazz Orchestra
with George Garzone - Jazz Orchestra

with special guest George Garzone, long-
time Berklee faculty member and world-
renowned educator and saxophonist. Music
arranged and composed by faculty member
Ayn Inserto who recently released her CD
Clairvoyance.

October 23 - The Jazz Educators Orchestra
— The Jazz Educators Orchestra, directed

by Berklee faculty member Brian Lewis will
present a program of jazz compositions from
Thelonious Monk, Wayne Shorter and origi-
nal compositions from the director. The JEO
is a standard sized jazz “big band” featuring
Berklee faculty, students, former students
and some of the best local professional jazz
musicians.

October 24 - Fall Together (Jazz Composition
Faculty Department Concert) — This is the
22nd annual Fall Together concert which
features compositions by faculty teaching in
the Jazz Composition Department. Featured
writers will be Greg Hopkins, Ken Pullig, Bob
Pilkington, Bruce Thomas, Marc Rossi, and
Phil Wilson.

October 29 - Julien Kasper Band - Faculty
guitarist Julien Kasper will perform original
psychedelic jazz rock with his band featuring
Zac Casher of drums and Jesse Williams on
acoustic and electric jazz, funk, fusion featur-
ing the music of Chick Corea as well as some
original compositions.

October 31 - Tango del Fuego/The Tatsuya
Yoshinaga All-Star Band - Flutist Michele
Pugliese presents Latin Fire-- a thirteen-piece
Latin big band versed in the styles of salsa,
merengue and bachata. Songs by Juan Luis
Guerra, arranged by Michelle Pugliese will
be featured along with compositions made
popular by artists such as Ray Barretto, Oscar
D’Leon, Orlando Valle and Los Hermanos
Rosario. Then drummer Tatsuya Yoshinaga
presents electric jazz, funk fusion music of
Chick Corea with original compositions as
well.
