BIOGRAPHIES

Linda Balliro, a graduate of New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, spent most of her
performing career in central Europe where she studied and performed for 15 years. Her credits
include concert, church, and opera. She appeared regularly in the annual Wiener Festwochen,at
the American Embassy in Vienna, and at leading churches and local chamber opera, recognized
for her interpretation of American Art Song of the 20th century, and Samuel Barbers’ “Knoxville
Summer of 1915” She toured as a soloist with the Hungarian Symphony Orchestra performing
rare operas from the 17th and 18th century. In 2007, Ms. Balliro returned to the US to be closer
to her aging parents, and expanded her studies in vocal pedagogy, mentoring with the legendary
vocal instructor, Seth Riggs, for over 10 years. Ms. Balliro is now a successful vocal instructor for
contemporary and classical singers. Her private clients include celebrity nationally touring artists,
regional bands, emerging artists, as well as professional/emerging children and teens. She is
honored tonight to emerge from her “Mozart retirement” to sing with Berklee’s talented young
artists.

David Thorne Scott is an active performer in many styles. His jazz album “Shade” was chosen
as a top 5 CD by the Jazz Education Journal, while Cadence Magazine says “he phrases like a
saxophone player and is as slippery and hip as the young Mel Tormé."

He has performed as a soloist with large ensembles like the Boston Pops Swing Orchestra,
the Capital Jazz Orchestra and the Thinkin’ Big Band. He has sung lead and played bass in the
legendary vocal group the Four Freshmen.

David plays piano and sings original music on his pop/jazz crossover album “Hopeful Romantic,”
produced by Gold- and Platinum-award winner Anthony Resta (Duran Duran, Collective Soul).

He is the leader and arranger of the Vintage Vocal Quartet, a vocal jazz repertory ensemble which
performs music of great big band era vocal groups such as the Modernaires and the Pied Pipers.

As a member of the vocal quartet Syncopation, called “a 21st-century Manhattan Transfer or
Lambert, Hendricks and Ross,” by the Boston Globe, he sang and played trumpet with the Boston
Pops. He performs with the L.A.-based vocal quintet Vocalogy, which has recorded two albums
featuring his arrangements, published by Hal Leonard, UNC Jazz Press, and SMP Music.

David sings classical music as well, and has performed with ensembles including Blue Heron and
Cut Circle.

David is Associate Professor at Berklee College of Music, where he teaches voice, improvisation,
ensembles, and vocal arranging. He is the director of Berklee's summer program Vocal Summit
and he is an active clinician who directs all-state jazz choirs.
