David Friend Recital Hall Concerts
December 4 [4:00] — The Music of Thad
Jones — Big Band jazz compositions and
arrangements by Thad Joens will be per-
formed by a student ensemble directed
by faculty member Ed Tomassi.
December 4 [8:00] — The Music of Bob
Marley - Now in its fifth year at Berklee,
the Music and Life of Bob Marley class,
taught by assistant professor (piano)
Matt Jenson, has been delivering a high
quality musical and academic experi-
ence to each student who has been ac-
cepted into the class. Students not only
play arrangements of Marley’s music
but they learn about Marley’s amaz-
ing life and how his life as a conscious
raising artist, dedicated to raising up
the downtrodden of the world, deeply
affected all of his music.
December 5 [ 1:00] — A Little Caribbean
Flavor - The songs from the Islands
Trinidad and Tobago, St Thomas and
Martinique will be performed by a
student ensemble directed by Winston
Maccow playing styls of Soca, Calypso,
Kaiso and Zouk.
December 5 [2:30] — Music of Joe Hen-
derson - Under the direction of faculty
member Bruce Saunders this ensemble
performs compositions by the renowned
saxophonist.
December 5 [4:00] — Berklee Ornette
Coleman Ensemble - Under the direc-
tion of faculty member Jeffrey Galindo
this eight piece ensemble performs com-
positions by the renowned saxophonist
from different periods of his career as
well as originals in his style.

Songwriter Showcase - The Songwrit-
ing Department proudly announces its
annual Performer/Songwriter Showcase
2006. The ten winning songs from the
recent Performer/Songwriter Showcase
Competition will be performed “live”
by the composers. The ten winning
singer/songwriters for 2006 are: Justin
Bethune, Chelsea Berry, Magdalini
Giannikou, Freddy Hall, Maria Hentzel,
Will Knox, Justin Levinson, Bradley
Mundell, Neara Russell, and Emily
Shackelton. The Performer Songwriter
Band this year features Brandon McCar-
ron, drums, Daniel Hones, bass, Randy
Runyon, guitar, and Cian McCarthy,
keyboards.
December 6 [1:00] — Time Out Plus
— An advanced small jazz band en-
semble directed by Joanne Brackeen
will perform original music and jazz
compositions by Dave Holland, Wayne
Shorter, and John Coltrane.
December 6 [2:30] — The Music of
Wayne Shorter Ensemble — Students
perform compositions by jazz saxophon-
ist Wayne Shorter under the direction of
Dave Santoro.
December 6 [4:00] = Music of the Blue
Note Era Music by Sam Rivers, Herbie
Hancock, Cedar Walton, Joe Henderson
and Wayne Shorter will be performed
by a student ensemble directed by Dave
Santoro.
December 6 [7:30] — Contemporary
Christian Music Ensemble directed by
Nancy Morris
