Biographical Summary

Mili Bermejo (1952-2017) was a jazz and Latin vocalist, composer, and educator. Born in Buenos Aires and raised in Mexico City, she studied voice and classical composition at Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico before coming to Berklee to study jazz arranging and composition in 1980. Bermejo joined the Voice department following her graduation in 1984. During her thirty-two years at the College, she taught a variety of voice and jazz courses, including advanced Latin and jazz vocal workshops, advanced vocal improvisation techniques, and recital workshops for performance classes, as well as private instruction. The first woman to receive the prestigious Achievement in Jazz Award from New England Foundation for the Arts (NEFA) in 1998, Bermejo also served as a panelist for the Cambridge Arts Council, Doris Duke Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA).
