Trumpeter and Berklee College of Music faculty member Jeff Stout describes his experiences gigging in several Boston-area clubs, particularly Lennie’s on the Turnpike and its owner Lennie Sogoloff. He shares stories about artists with whom he has performed; memorable international gigs and festivals, including the Notodden Blues Festival in Norway; as well as colleagues and former students. Stout also discusses the development of the Berklee Windsday series, changes in secondary school music education, and his teaching approach in the classroom and in private lessons.
Philadelphia native and trumpeter Jeff Stout (1945- ) earned his bachelor’s in music education from West Chester State University and his Master of Music from the New England Conservatory of Music; he also participated in the Special Studies program at Berklee College of Music. Stout joined the Berklee College of Music Brass faculty in 1970, where he has taught for over fifty years. In addition to touring with the Buddy Rich Orchestra, Stout’s performance career has included collaborations with artists such as Gary Burton and Al Kooper. Stout has also led his own bands, including Jeff Stout’s Hot Six and his Bostonian Bebop Band.
