Berklee Performance Center Concerts 2 w0 o o < ~ 6 9Fs in February 29 - Ebony Voices of Jazz - As part of Berklee's Black Music Celebration, faculty member Dennis Montgomery III presents student vocalists in a tribute to the Ebony voices of the past and present including Bessie Smith, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Nancy Wilson, Betty Carter, Anita Baker, Diane Reeves and others. March 4 - Terri Lyne Carrington & Lalah Hathaway: Celebrating Women in Music - Sponsored by the College Diversity Committee under the direction of faculty vocalist/pianist Maggi Scott, this concert celebrates to talents of some of Berklee’s most illustrious alumni. In the first half, drummer Terri Lyne Carrington leads a trio with fellow alum Danilo Perez on piano. At intermission, 50th anniver- sary Medallions will be awarded to Lalah Hathaway and alum Wannetta Jackson; Ms. Carrington will receive an Award of Achievement. The second half will open with a selection by vocalist Wannetta Jackson and faculty pianist Frank Wilkins. Then vocalist Lalah Hathaway, with alums David Delhomme, piano and Carrington on drums, will perform jazz, and r&b compositions. March 5 - Piano Department Student Concert Student pianists Jeffrey Bhasker, Takashi Kudo and Alex Lacamoire lead their small ensembles in jazz and contempo- rary original compositions as part of Piano Week activities. March 6 - Piano Department Faculty Concert - The Piano Week faculty concert presents Robert Christopherson leading his trio, with Gregg Holt, bass and faculty member John Ramsey, drums. Then Makoto Takenaka and his quartet perform originals and standards in a variety of styles and themes. March 7 - Lunatique Fringe Orchestra/Fabian Bausch’s Time Design - Com- poser/arranger Luna Uehara presents original compositions for jazz Orchestra. In the second half, bassist Fabian Bausch offers original music in a variety of styles for quartet. March 11 - Hal Crook Jazz Trio with Mick Goodrick and Paul Motion - Co-sponsored by a jazz performance grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, this concert presents original music by trombonist Hal Crook for trio featuring guitarist Mick Goodrick, drummer Paul Motian and Crook on trombone with digital 5-voice harmonizer. March 12 - Workprint/Magic Worlds- Original compositions for jazz sextet will be presented by saxophonist Ryan Shore. In the second half, trumpet plaer/composer Achim Roghe is presenting his extended composition “Magic Worlds,” for large jazz ensemble combining elements from classical music and jazz.
