CITY OF BOSTON + MASSACHUSETTS OFFICE OF THE MAYOR THOMAS M. MENINO April 29, 1995 Dear Friends of Herb Pomeroy: As Mayor of Boston, it is my pleasure to join with you in honoring Herb Pomeroy, a major musical treasure of our city, state and region for more than four decades. It says a lot about someone when more than a thousand of his friends turn out for a party in his honor. Berklee College, celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, is the first college in the world to offer studies in jazz and popular music, and is recognized as one of the finest institutions for music education. Herb Pomeroy has been a cornerstone of the school since 1955, and has helped to shape the character and direction of Berklee throughout the years. Herb has also maintained a vibrant career beyond the classroom as a performer and bandleader, from early engagements at the legendary High Hat club in the South End playing with Charlie Parker, and tours with the bands of Lionel Hampton and Stan Kenton, to work with his own large and small groups, playing throughout New England. My congratulations to Professor Pomeroy, for all his many musical accomplishments, for the students whose lives and careers he has touched, and for the chance, now, to get back to playing the trumpet full-time. We will all look forward to hearing him around town even more frequently in the years to come. Sincere o Thomas M.
