Berklee Performance Center Concerts 7’ © e o .o ~ April 13 Commercial Arranging Department Student Concert - This first annual concert, under the direction fo deparmtnet chair Jay Kennedy and faculty member Jerry Gates, will feature the writing of majors in Commercial Arranging performed by faculty and students from the Berklee Recording Orchestra. April 20 Singers’ Showcase - In it's 12th year, the Performance Division’s Yo Team Productions presents “Singers’ Showcase.” This presentation will feature many of Berklee’s finest vocalists including Jonathan Royal, LaQuinta Brown, Stefanie Kelly, Deanna DellaCioppa, Jerome Kyles, Megan Gass, Monica Link and a new group Just Us 4. They will be performing the music of Tina Turner, Take Six, Joni Mitchell, Darrel Coley, Patti LaBelle and many others. A variety of instrumental settings and arrangements have been written especially for this event. April 21 Bruce Bartlett Group/Carl Verheyen Group - Faculty member Bruce Bartlett assisted by bassist Baron Browne and others perform contemporary jazz, funk and fusion originals. In the second half, visiting artist Carl Verheyen performs contemporary rock and fusion originals, assisted by Guitar Department faculty member Jon Finn and David DiCenso on drums. April 22 Guitar Night/Kurt Rosenwinkel Quartet - In this Berklee Guitar Student Showcase Concert, six outstanding Berklee students perform instrumental music by contemporary masters as well as original material. In the second half, visiting artist and Berklee alum Kurt Rosenwinkel plays avant garde contemporary jazz originals. April 24 I've Tried Him - An evening of contemporary and traditional gospel music performed by Berklee’s Reverence Gospel Ensemble will feature compositions by Robert Lewis, Jimane Nelson, Thomas Whitefield, James Hall, O’landa Drapper and ensemble director faculty member Dennis Montgomery III. Berklee’s new small gospel ensemble, Overjoyed, will also perform. April 26 An Evening with the Berklee Rainbow Orchestra - Under the direction of faculty composer/arranger/trombonist Phil Wilson, jazz fusion originals will be performed by one of Berklee's premiere ensembles with an added string section. April 27 Chord Scale Madness/Shaken, Not Stirred - Under the direction of Jazz Composition department faculty member Jackson Schultz, some of the strongest student arrangements from the “Voicings Derived from Chord Scales” course will be performed by a large ensemble. In the second half, faculty member Brian Lewis presents big band music in a variety of jazz styles including funk, latin-samba, latin- salsa and swing. Included in this performance will be a premiere of Brian Lewis’ arrangement of 7'/l Wait and Pray featuring guest soloist Ear Training department chair Greg Badolato.
