A TRIBUTE TO MILES DAVIS—As part of Berklee’s Black History Month celebration, faculty saxophonist Walter Beasley presents the music of the late jazz great Miles Davis, featuring student instrumen- talists Kimball Brown and Riley Mullins. BASS DEPARTMENT STUDENT CONCERT—Bass Department Chair Rich Appleman presents seven bass students performing in a variety of musical settings, from duos to quintets, in styles ranging from traditional jazz, fusion, funk, to Latin and rock. PRESENTING THE MUSIC OF CARLA BLEY—]Jazz Composition Department faculty member Jeff Friedman presents the music of Carla Bley in his orchestrations for big band performed by a student en- semble with guest faculty trombonist Phil Wilson and Jeff Friedman on guitar. PIANO DEPARTMENT CONCERT—Chair Paul Schmeling showcases Piano Department faculty members in a variety of musical styles and settings. Assistant Chair Stephany Tiernan and faculty member Neil Olmstead will play “Three Quarter Tone Pieces” by Charles Ives; Jorge Martinez leads a quintet performing original Latin music; and Marc Rossi presents original fusion, funk, and world beat music for sextet. WRITE OF SPRING—The Jazz Composition Department presents faculty compositions by Bob Pilkington, Jeff Friedman, Jackson Schultz, Bill Scism, and Marc Rossi, and pieces by students Dan Graham, Mercedes Rossy, Fumi Tamara, and Federico Schneider in settings ranging from quintet to small big band under the direction of Bob Pilkington.
