February 11 February 13 February 18 February 20 February 24 February 25 Berklee Performance Center Concerts SPRING 1992 THE BERKLEE COLLEGE BEN RILEY TRIBUTE BAND featuring Ben Riley—Drummer Ben Riley will perform with a specially se- lected student septet in an evening of contemporary jazz by Riley and . Thelonious Monk under the direction of faculty guitarist Rick Peckham. Ben Riley has performed and recorded with some of the most important figures in jazz including Sonny Rollins, Ahmad Jamal, Stan Getz, Eric Dolphy, Woody Herman, Sonny Stitt, Billy Taylor and many others. From 1964-67, he worked with Thelonious Monk during one of the pianists most prolific periods for Columbia Records. In the early 1970s, he worked with Carmen McRae, Ron Carter, and Jim Hall, travelling to the Soviet Union with an All-Star Quartet. In the 1980s, with Charlie Rouse, he co-founded the group Sphere, performing Monk’s music and releasing four albums, Recently, he has been recording and touring in Europe. THE SECRETS OF SHADOWS—Faculty percussionist Steve Wilkes offers an evening of Eastern-influenced instrumentals and pop/rock from his recent CD release. Featuring Berklee faculty members Jon Finn on guitar and Luanne Warner on acoustic and electric percus- sion, the band dr. carrot also includes vocalist Ginny Fordham and bassist Dave Buda. RICK PECKHAM, IAN FROMAN, DAVE CLARK, CHRIS CHEEK, KEN CERVENKA—Faculty guitarist Rick Peckham presents an evening of post-bop jazz standards and originals performed by a quintet. A TRIBUTE TO MILES DAVIS—As part of Berklee’s Black History Month celebration, faculty saxophonist Walter Beasley presents the music of the late jazz great Miles Davis, featuring student instrumen- talists Kimball Brown and Riley Mullins. BASS DEPARTMENT STUDENT CONCERT—Bass Department Chair Rich Appleman presents seven bass students performing in a variety of musical settings, from duos to quintets, in styles ranging from traditional jazz, fusion, funk, to Latin and rock.
