Praectorious is generally more well known for his sacred compositions in connection with the Lutheran Church in the early 17th Century. In TERPSICHORE SUITE, however, we have a lighter group of pieces adapted from traditional dances of his time. Vittorio Giannini was an American composer famous for opera, songs and music for concert band. His 3rd Symphony is a very powerful work as is the PRAELUDIUM AND ALLEGRO - the prelude is slow and forceful leading to the allegro which is butlt on the theme of the prelude. It is in A B A form - ending with a vibrant dissonance. : While John Zdechlik sdys that this work is based on the well known hymn AMAZING GRACE, i1t 18 very difficult to recognize the tune except for one short passage near the end. Originally an orchestra piece, DANCE RHYTHMS FOR BAND was scored for band by the composer in an attempt to show that band and orchestra are equally capable of playing the same musie. It is a delightfully playful rhythmic work.
