Full of surprises. ‘\ S N | . o THE MESSENGER LEGACY BT N October 10 Celebrating Blakey: The Messenger Legacy The Messenger Legacy is an elite lineup of former members of one of jazz’s most influential bands, Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers. This configuration features bassist Reggie Workman, alto saxophonist Donald Harrison, trumpeter Brian | Lynch, tenor saxophonist Billy Pierce, pianist Donald a Brown, and drummer Ralph Peterson. About forming the group, Peterson says, “Every time | play the drums it is in tribute to Art, but | wanted to do something that goes beyond me, beyond any individual. | wanted to pay tribute in a way that was authentic, genuine, and meaningful not just to a few, but to every person he touched through his music.” Movember 6 Alejandro Sanz Meets Berklee /' This concert, showcasing Sanz’s music as interpreted by Berklee students and IV AR NS [T E I R N oSS e (o) of his honorary degree from Berklee, and feature Sanz himself on selected songs. Sanz’s ‘new album La Musica No Se Toca is one of 2013’s best-selling albums and has produced three consecutive No. 1 singles in Spain, Latin America, and the U.S. Sanz has won a total of three Grammy Awards and 16 Latin Grammy Awards, including three Latin Grammy Album of the Year Awards, a distinction no other artist can claim for that category. The outstanding lead singers are chosen from more than 100 students who audition for a spot in this immensely popular concert. Produced by the Yo Team. December 12 Guinga Meets Berklee This concert features the compositions, guitar, and voice of Guinga (nee Carlos Althier de Souza Lemos Escobar). Guinga is one of the foremost musicians in Brazil. His collaborations with other musicians as a guitarist, singer, and composer read like a who's who of contemporary Brazilian music. His growing oeuvre is garnering praise such as this from Hermeto Pascoal: “A guy like that only appears every hundred years.” Guinga will be playing and singing his own compositions, supported by the Berklee Contemporary Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Francisco Noya, with arrangements provided both by Paulo Aragao (a rising star in the Brazilian guitar universe) and by select Berklee faculty and students. The Orchestra will be augmented by student and faculty feature soloists in a very special night of music.
