David Friend Recital Hall Concerts November 3-Senior Marimba Recital: Bring Me Men - Percussionist Martha Cipolla pres- ents classical marimba, timpani and multiple percussion solos. Other styles include Brazilian folk, tango, pop/rock free improvisa- tion and compositions by Astor Piazzola, Guillo Espel, and Elliott Carter, William Kraft and Ney Rosario, with special guests Jon Singer, Vessela Stoyanova, Sandra Aran and Udi Wahrsager. November 4-New Directions — Faculty vocalist Lisa Thorson presents improvised music for her quartet--Tim Ray, piano, and faculty members David Clark, bass and Tony Gaboury, guitar--including the compositions and arrangements of Ellington, Kenny Wheeler, Edu Lobo, Ray, Clark, Gaboury and Thorson. November 15-Jazz Vocal Series - Under the direction of faculty vocalist Maggie Scott, student vocalists will perform jazz standards from the American Song book repertoire accompanied by a rhythm section including Scott on piano. November 16 — Tribute to Juan Luis Guerra - led by faculty member Bernardo Hernandez. November 18 - Oscar Feldman November 22- Piano Recital - A recital of compositions for piano presented by students of Ed Bedner. November 29 - 3:00 p.m. - Country Music Ensemble - The Berklee Country Music Ensemble under the direction of faculty gui- tarist Mike Ihde, performs top country hits as well as instrumentals in classic country, west- ern swing, and rockabilly styles. November 29 - 7:30 p.m. - Brazilian Jazz - Faculty member Fernando Brandao leads this student ensemble performing jazz from Brazil including compositions by Caetano Veloso, Milton Nascimento and Brandao. November 30 — 3:00 p.m. - The Music of Miles Davis — Under the direction of faculty trumpeter Ken Cervenka, this student ensem- ble performs the acoustic jazz, Be-bop, post/hard bop and mainstream compositions music of Wayne Shorter, Miles Davis and some originals by band members. November 30 - 4:30 p.m. - Music of Steve Coleman -The Music of Steve Coleman ensemble performs under the direction of faculty guitarist Bob Schlink. November 30 — 7:00 p.m. — Here We Are — Melodious fusion compositions by faculty trumpeter Tiger Okoshi will be performed by his ensemble.
