Concert Series This is the first in a series of concerts under the theme of Griots and Community. This con- cert will be a celebration of ensembles. Performances inspired by Balkan folk music, African vocal traditions, Negro spirituals, contemporary music and jazz, promise a concert of diverse styles of storytelling through vocal music. The Berklee Jazz Orchestra will add their sonorous colors to the mix of music presented. Award Warrick L. Carter Lecture Series Warrick L. Carter served as dean of faculty and later as provost/vice president for academic affairs from 1984-1996. With the participation and support of his wife, Laurel, he made many enduring contributions to the college. In appreciation and recognition, the board of trustees established the annual Warrick L. Carter Lecture Series as part of Berklee’s annual Black History Month Celebration. Faculty support and diversity were areas of special focus for Carter and, under his leader- ship, an Office of Faculty and Instructional Development was established to assist faculty with improving their teaching skills and obtaining advanced degrees. In addition, the faculty became more diverse with the hiring of minorities and women. Carter also worked with the Office of Education Partnerships (now called the President’s Office of Education Outreach) to help serve the educational needs of the area African American community. The tradition of scholarly lectures as part of Black History Month Celebration was initiated by Carter, and we are pleased to have that tradition continue as the annual Warrick L. Carter Lecture Series.
