David Friend Recital Hall Concerts February 8- Wondrous Winds Return — Woodwind and Brass department faculty members Wendy Rolfe, flute; Barbara LaFitte, oboe; Peter Cokkinias, clarinet, Margaret Phillips, bassoon and Michael Weinstein, french horn will perform works by Berklee composers Michael Weinstein, Leroy Southers and Jack Jarrett. Rounding out the program will be works by Paul Hindemith and Alan Hovhaness. February 12 — Oboe & Friends — Woodwind facultymember Barbara LaFitte presents an evening of music for oboe and strings including Benjamin Britten’s Phatsy Quartet; Jean Francaix’s quartet for English Horn and a premier of a new compostion by Berklee composer Greg Hopkins. Ms. Lafitte will be assited by fellow Berklee faculty Sandra Kott, Violin And Melissa Howe, viola with special guest Lynn Nowels, cello. February 13 — Free Range — Faculty guitarist Ed Bloomquist presents the ensemble “Free Range, “ who have been playing together since May of 2000. Their music is entirely free improvised, falling somewhere in the nexus between free jazz, progressive/experimental rock, sci-fi avant garde, and deranged blues. Four intrepid comrades embarking on an pilgrimage through the uncharted laughing-gas swamps of outer space. February 15- Udu Xylorimba Tom-tom Gong-a-thon - Percussion prinicple Jason Currin presents new music for percussion including contempoarary classical, electronic, pop, eastern-folk and modern improvisation mixed with standard percussion repertoire performed by NEWWORLDAMBIENTPROJECT. February 21- Tribute To Paul Robeson - This concert by faculty vocalist Larry Watson will include the music of the great basso vocalist and political activist Paul Robeson and spoken words of Malcolm X who was assassinated on February 21. February 22 Tomo Fujita and Blue Funk - Faculty guitarist Tomo Fujita presents “Blue Funk,” featuring Berklee faculty members Larry Finn, drums; Dave Limina, organ and Anthony Vitti, bass performing Tomo’s original compositions which are mix of funk rhythms, jazz changes and blues solos.
