May 3 May 4 May 5 May 9 Berklee Performance Center Concerts SPRING 1988 PERCUSSION UNLIMITED —The Percussion Department presents its annual showcase of its finest student percussionists and faculty members under the direction of department chairman Dean Anderson. This vear’s featured soloist will be Spyro-Gyra’s gifted mallet specialist Dave Samuels. accompanied by faculty member Ed Uribe. In addition to works by Samuels, the percussion ensemble will perform compositions by John Cage, Steve Reich. William Albright and a world premiere of ensemble member Mathias Haus’ “1920— A Day with the Machine” METAL SHOP STRIKES AGAIN! — The second annual Performance Center concert featuring the Heavy Metal/Hard Rock Performance Studies classes under the direction of faculty guitarist Cliff Maddix. Three bands will be featured performing original compositions. Double Concert — STILL MORE...“CHORD SCALE MADNESS”/ ROCK ARRANGING — LIVE! — This two-part concert features the best student arrangements from two different classes — Chord Scale Voicings and Rock Arranging for Live Performance. Opening the con- cert, faculty arranger Jackson Schultz directs the Chord Scale Madness ensemble through styles from jazz to jazz/rock and salsa. In the sec- ond half, Commercial Arranging faculty members Mirek Kocandrle, Brian Lewis and Lennie Peterson lead a student band through various music in the pop/rock idiom, performed in a number of different instrumental settings. A FAREWELL TO DENNIS — Berklee’s Reverence Gospel Ensemble bids farewell to student director Dennis Montgomery III in a concert of traditional and contemporary gospel music. Double Concert — THE COLLEGE SINGERS IN CONCERT/ VOCAL SUMMIT — In the first half, Voice Department Chairman Kenneth Greenhouse conducts the twenty-four voice College Singers in a program of twentieth century choral music by Steve Cooper, Jean Berger, Edwin Fissinger and others. Featured selections by tu- dent composers include a setting of a Walt Whitman text for chorus and wind instruments by Lucile Holstedt and a vocal jazz compo- sition by Earl Dimaculangan. In the second half, Voice Department faculty member Bob Stoloff leads his ensemble through an a capella performance including all musical styles and theatre techniques. Original compositions and pieces by Duke Ellington, Neil Hefti, Tania Maria and Stevie Wonder will be featured.
