Berklee Performance Center Concerts Spring 1998 March 9 - Verde - The Music of Carlos Benavides/Sonata for Jazz Quintet - Original popular Latin-American music sung in Spanish with string section is presented by composer/arranger/singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Carlos Benavides. Then guitarist/composer Brandon Furman presents modern, through composed jazz influenced by Bartok, Haydn, Bach, Weather Report and Coltrane for his quintet. March 11- Music of Contemporary Writing and Production Majors - This third annual concert features the writing of Majors in the Contemporary Writing and Production department. Pop/Rock, fusion and Latin selections will feature performances by many of Berkleeā€™s talented student performers. March 12 - Seiro Hirose Group - Original fusion and Latin compositons for quintet are presented by guitarist Seiro Hirose with Hioraki Honshuku, flute, Garrett Sayers, bass, Mark Shilansky, piano and Juliano Zanoni, drums. March 23 - The Pierrot Lunaire Ensemble - Faculty vocalist Robin Ginnenthal presents the premiere concert of a new faculty based group called The Pierrot Lunaire Ensemble. The concert includes a performance of Pierrot Lunaire,Opus 21, by composer Arnold Schoenberg with faculty performers Robin Ginenthal, soprano, David Callahan, conductor and Louis Stewart, piano and Mimi Rabson, violin. The members of the ensemble are well known for their work in the Boston area and have performed with such groups as Brookline Symphony, Conservatory Klezmer Band, Dinosaur Annex, Alea III, The Merrimack Valley Philharmonic, Cantata Singers, and Extension Works.
