Berklee Performance Center Concerts March 9 Vox One/The Yuki Arimasa Trio—Ear Training Department faculty member Yumiko Matsuoka presents the a cappella vocal group Vox One performing original and arrangements of compositions by Rodgers and Hammerstein, Al Jarreau, Otis Redding and others. Then, Piano Department faculty member Yuki Arimasa leads his trio in a program of originals and jazz standards. March 10 Changing Standards/Eclectic Improvisations—Faculty pianist Laszlo Gardony will perform contemporary arrangements of jazz stan- dards from his new solo piano album, Changing Standards. In the second half, Piano Department faculty member Tim Ray will perform a program of solo piano music and duos with faculty member Greg Hopkins, trumpet, in jazz, Latin, and free improvisation styles. Featured composers will include Tim Tay, Greg Hopkins, Mike Maineiri, Egberto Gismonti, and Lyle Lovett. March 14 Jazz Vocal Series—Voice Department faculty member Maggi Scott presents student vocalists performing jazz standards accompanied by a faculty rhythm section with Dave Clark, bass, and Bob Stoloff, drums. March 15 Write of Spring—The Jazz Composition Department’s annual spring concert will present an array of new compositions for instrumentations ranging from quintet to full big band. Featured writers include Jazz Composition Department faculty members Scott Free, Jeff Friedman, Dick Lowell, Bill Scism, and Jackson Schultz as well as outstanding student writers Masaka Hamamura and Lester Menezes. March 16 An Evening with Robert Stanton/Norman Zocher Trio—A program of acoustic and electric guitar music in country, blues, jazz, and classical styles will be presented by Performance Studies Department faculty member Robert Stanton. Many original compositions will be featured and special guests include String Department Chair Matt Glaser and bassist Roger Kimball. In the second half, Guitar Department faculty member Norman Zocher presents original guitar oriented jazz compositions performed by his trio. March 17 The Music of the Yellowjackets/The Berklee Buddy Rich Ensemble—Ensemble Department faculty member David Weigert presents the jazz fusion music of the Yellowjackets performed by a four-piece ensemble. In the second half, faculty trumpeter Wayne Naus leads Berklee’s Buddy Rich Ensemble in a program of big band jazz in the style of the late bandleader.
