KNOW/THE LATIN JAZZ UNION— Contemporary jazz and funk styles are presented by faculty guitarist Rick Peckham and a faculty quintet. Compositions by T. Monk, W. Shorter, Ornette Coleman and John Scofield and others. In the second half faculty bassist Irving Cancel performs Latin and jazz originals. THE ONION CELLAR—Music Synthesis Department faculty member Jamshied Sharifi presents adaptations of traditional songs of the Ewe and Dagomba people of Ghana, West Africa, to a west- ern vocal/instrumental ensemble. PAUL LANDSBERG QUINTET/CROSSBREEZE IV—Faculty guitarist Paul Landsberg presents his quintet in an evening of original rhythm and blues and jazz. In the second half, faculty guitarist Ken Taft leads a quartet performing original fusion and jazz compositions. HOMECOMING —Faculty vocalist Mili Bermejo presents a pro- gram featuring selections from her forthcoming album Homecoming. Backed by faculty pianist Tim Ray, bassist Dan Greenspan and drum- mer Jim Gwin, the quartet will perform a variety of jazz styles includ- ing works by Johnny Mercer, T. Monk, Chick Corea and Tadd Dameron as well as originals by Tim Ray and some Latin music from Argentina, Mexico and Cuba. JOHN BABOIAN & FRIENDS—Mainstream and contemporary jazz is presented by faculty guitarist John Baboian with an all-star faculty sextet. OBJECTIVE PERSPECTIVE/NOB’S GROOVE — Trumpeter Osamu Arai opens this two for one concert with a program of origi- nal funk compositions performed by his sextet. In the second half bassist Nob Kinukawa performs jazz fusion compositions with his quintet and special guest faculty guitarist Rick Peckham. BARKIN’ UP A STORM—Faculty percussionist Bob Tamagni brings his all faculty group, ‘The Sled Dogs; to the B.P.C. to per- form original jazz and rhythm and blues compositions. Featured performers include Professional Performance Division Chairman Larry Monroe and Jim Odgren, alto saxophones, Jim Kelly, guitar and Danny Morris, bass.
