Berklee Performance Center Concerts February 18 Six Drumsets - The first half of this evenings music fwill feature new percussion department faculty members Linda Malouf, Richard Flanagan and Jamie Haddad in solo and group presentations with faculty saxophonist George Garzone. In the second half percussion department faculty Steve Wilkes presents “Six Drumsets,” Drums Symphony No. 1, an extended percussion extravaganza in four movements. Utilizing world music rhythms, linear phrasing and techniques, electronic percussion and acoustic drums, Six Drumsets explores the past, present and future of drumming. Featured performers include Berklee alumni Marko Djordjevic and Kurt Schuler, current Berklee students Takeshi Ichikawa and John Rabb, and faculty members Jon Hazilla and Steve Wilkes. February 22 Black Divas: A Tribute to “Girl Groups” - As part of Berklee's Balck History Month activities, faculty member Richard Evans and student vocalist Robin Spears present an evening featuring the music of the Supremes, Martha Reeves and the Vandellas, the Shirelles, the Emotions, En Vogue, and S.W.V. performed by student vocalists in a variety of instrumental settings. Original arrangements will be by faculty members Richard Evans and Tom Stein, students Dan Williams and George McAllistyer and others. February 23 Planet Schlink/Collaboration - Ensemble department faculty member Bob Schlink presents original rock music for quartet and featuring the unique “Viotar” the combination violin and guitar he invented. In the second half guitar faculty David Howard presents the Joe Parillo Ensemble performing original music incorporating elements of jazz, Latin and world music. February 24 A Tribute to Prince - The music of Prince will be featured in a concert of student performers under the direction of student Chelsa Bailey and Ensemble Department Chair Orville Wright. Rock, funk, blues and ballads will be performed by top sutdent musicians and several tunes will feature the dance group The Funky Girls Club February 25 20th Century Piano & Vocal Music from the U.S. & Spain - Under the direction of Composition department faculty member pianist Louis Stewart, this concert will feature the premier of a piano work by Composition Department Chair Jack Jarret as well as presenting other American piano music with a connection to jazz. Ear Training Department faculty member soprano Robin Ginenthal will perform two song sets from the U.S. and Spain. Music by Aaron Copland, Manuel de Falla, Jack Jarrett and Louis Stewart will be performed. The Performance Center at Berklee College of Music is a Ticketmaster outlet.
