David Friend Recital Hall Concerts April 5— Composition Department Awards Concert - This year’s student composition winners are Masako Hirota, David Utzinger and Duane Beller. An evening of chamber music will include the Sonata No. by Masako Hirota per- formed by the composer. David Utzinger’s Quintet in D and Duane Beller’s Sirens for Recorder, Clarinet, Viola and Harp will also be performed. April 6 — Miracle in Strings: Celebrating the Genius of Harry Lookofsky The Berklee Sting Department, under the direction of chair violinist Matt Glaser, presents jazz for stings and rhythm section in a variety of combinations. April 8 — Esterhazy Quartet - A reading and recording session of student compositions for string quartets by the renowned Esterhazy Quartet: Eva Szekely and John McLeod, violinists Leslie Perna, violist and Darry Dolezal, cellist. April 12 — Julian Kasper — Guitar department faculty member Julian Kasper performs as part of Guitar Week activities. April 13 — Chris Buono - Guitar department faculty member Chris Buono performs as part of Guitar Week activities. April 14 — The Music of Bill Evans — Faculty guitarist Tony Gaboury will present the music of jazz great Bill Evans for his quartet including faculty bassist Bruno Raberg. April 15 — Bret’s Frets — Bret Willmott presents his students playing contempo- rary jazz. April 20, 1pm— The Berklee String Orchestra - Under the direction of faculty cellist Eugene Friesen, students perform contemporary music for strings. April 20, 2:30pm — Advanced Small Band ensemble directed by Joe Lovano April 20, 4:00pm — Advanced Small Band ensemble directed by Joe Lovano April 20, 7:30om- Songwriters’ Circle 2004 — Songwriter’s Circle is an acoustic writers showcase which features “the song” rather than “the arrangement.” Inspired by the Songwriter’s Circle at the Bluebird Cafe in Nashville, Tennessee, our production follows the slightly more formal presentation of the Songwriter’s Circle in New York City. This year’s showcase will feature: Andrew Douglass, Kate Klim, Rachel Loy, and Matt Pryor. Each of them will be performing three songs in an acoustic setting featuring voices and guitar or piano.
