David Friend Recital Hall Concerts Aug3 [1:00 pm]| The Music of Miles Davis Ensemble — Under the direc- tion of Kenneth Cervenka, this student ensemble performs the music of Miles Davis from bebop to mainstream 1945- 1969. [4:00 pm] Call It What You Want — Fac- ulty member Ken Cervenka presents his advanced Small Band Ensemble performing mainstream and contempo- rary jazz. [7:30 pm| Bain Smith - Faculty mem- bers Lin Biviano, Daryl Lowery, Berke McKelvey, Jeff Perry, Steve Wark, and Bain Smith will play original composi- tions in the tradition of the hard bop bands of the 1960s, but with a modern sensibility. In addition to bebop, the band will play ballads, funk, and hip- hop influenced tunes. Many of these tunes have been recorded by Along Came Betty, a jazz quintet based in the Monterey, California, in which Bain Smith is the pianist and main composer. August 4 Jim Peterson and Groove Junkies — Faculty guitarist Jim Peterson presents his band Groove Junkies per- forming funk originals and compositions fo James Brown and Donald Fagan. August 7 [1:00pm| Hot Summer Country - The Berklee Country Music Ensemble under the direction of {aculty guitarist Mike Ihde, performs top country hits as well as instrumen- tals in classic country, western swing, and rockabilly styles. [4:00 pm] Carolyn’s Monday Band - Faculty member Carolyn Wilkins pres- ents her level four ensemble performing a mixture of original compositions, jazz, R&B, ad funk tunes performed by four vocalists and a rhythm section. | 7:30pm| Search for Peace - Under the direction of Ron Mahdi a student ensemble performs an exciting blend of jazz, Latin and funk compositions by McCoy Tyner, Cedar Walton and Miles Davis. August 8 [1:00pm] Small Band Ensem- ble Under the direction of Ron Mahdi. [4:00 pm] The Music of the Meters - The Music of the renowned New Orleans funk band will be performed by this ensemble under the direction of faculty member Bob Tamagni. | 7:30pm| Brazilian Jazz — Faculty mem- ber Fernando Brandao leads this student ensemble performing jazz from Brazil including compositions by Caetano Ve- loso, Milton Nascimento and Brandao. August 9 The Orchestral Club presents The College Repertory Orchestra - The Orchestral Club presents the College Repertory Orchestra performing an evening of chamber music, ranging from Mozart to world premieres of student composers and student film scores.
