April 19 April 21 April 25 April 26 May 2 May 3 May 4 May 5 May 9 Berklee Performance Center Concerts SPRING 1988 THE BERKLEE CONCERT JAZZ ORCHESTRA—Renowned faculty trumpeter/arranger Herb Pomeroy leads the most prestig- ious ensemble in the college in a program of contemporary big band music. SINGERS’ SHOWCASE —Some of Berklee’s finest vocalists join together for a varjed concert of arrangements written especially for this event in a variety of stvles under the direction of Performance Studies Department faculty member Ken Zambello in conjunction with Yo Team Productions. GUITAR NIGHT XII—The Berklee Guitar Department presents its top ensembiles in its annual showcase concert embracing all facets of guitar from jazz to bluegrass. Double Concert— STANDARDIZED/TENDERNESS —Ensemble Department Chairman Orville Wright presents a four-piece ensemble featuring vocalist Maria Logiudice singing standards by Cole Porter, Johnny Mercer, Thelonious Monk and John Carisi. In the second half faculty saxophonist/vocalist Walter Beasley presents his group Band of Life, performing original selections from his new album as well as compositions by John Coltrane and Hiram Bullock. PERCUSSION UNLIMITED —The Percussion Department presents its annual showcase of its finest student percussionists and faculty members under the direction of department chairman Dean Anderson. This year’s featured soloist will be Spyro-Gyra’s gifted mallet specialist Dave Samuels, accompanied by faculty member Ed Uribe. In addition to works by Samuels, the percussion ensemble will perform compositions by John Cage, Steve Reich, William Albright and a world premiere of ensemble member Mathias Haus’ “1920— A Day with the Machine” METAL SHOP STRIKES AGAIN!—In the second annual Per- formance Center concert featuring the Heavy Metal/Hard Rock Performance Studies classes under the direction of faculty guitarist Cliff Maddix three bands will perform original compositions.
