March 28 Berklee Per formance Center Concerts SPRING 1991 THE CONCERT CHOIR/THE BERKLEE THELONIOUS MONK ENSEMBLE—The 46-voice Concert Choir, under the direction of Voice Department faculty member Anne Peckham, will perform works by Aaron Copland and Ralph Vaughan-Williams, as well as spirituals and folk songs. In the celebration of Mozart’s bicentennial year, the choir will perform Jubilate from the Offertorium Pro Omni Tempore, K117. In the second half, faculty guitarist Rick Peckham presents the eight-piece Berklee Thelonious Monk Ensemble perform- ing compositions by the late jazz giant. March 29 JAMES CLEVELAND “WE LOVE YOU”—Ensemble Department Chair April 1 April 2 Orville Wright and faculty member Walter Beasley present Berklee's Reverence Gospel Choir in a concert featuring contemporary gospel music by composers Walter Hawkins, Malcolm Speed, and a special tribute to James Cleveland, founder of the Gospel Music Workshop of America. THE COLLEGE SINGERS/THE CONCERT WIND ENSEMBLE—Voice Department Chair Ken Greenhouse conducts the 22-voice College Singers in a program of twentieth century choral music. Works by Aaron Copland, Randall Thompson, Ron Nelson, and Edwin Fissinger will be performed by the men and women of the College Singers separately and together. Faculty member Wayne Ward will accom- pany on piano. In the second half, Composition Department Assistant Chair Greg Fritze presents the Concert Wind Ensemble performing twentieth century music by Bernstein, Grainger, and Badings. Winner of the 1991 Berklee Concerto Competition flutist Mia Olson will be a featured soloist and student composer Douglas Koeppe's Music for Winds will be featured as the winner of the 1991 Wind Ensemble Composition Competition. AN EVENING WITH THE BERKLEE RAINBOW BAND—Faculty trombonist/composer/arranger Phil Wilson leads the Berklee Rainbow Band in a program of jazz, fusion, and rock originals by outstanding student composers and arrangers, including works by Associate Dean of Curriculum Robert Myers, students Matsumi Tori, Mike Genovese, Jose Barros, Mike Yelle, faculty member Phil Wilson, and alumnus Makoto Ozone. Feature vocalists will be Sharine Janse and Cinthia Tignor with Melvin Butler, Julie Sussman, Andreas Mitytermayer, and Pat Loomis among the featured instrumentalists.
