Berklee Per formance Center Concerts SPRING 1991 February 7 A TRIBUTE TO ART BLAKEY AND DEXTER GORDON —As part of Berklee’s Black History Month activities, faculty saxophonist Bill Pierce presents a tribute to two late jazz masters, Art Blakey and Dexter Gordon. Special guest drummer Alan Dawson will be joined by faculty members Andy McGhee, Bill Thompson, and Bob Zung, saxophones; Ken Cervenka and Jeff Stout, trumpets; Tony Lada, trom- bone; and John Ramsay, drums; as well as some talented student instrumentalists performing the music of Blakey’s Jazz Messengers and Dexter Gordon compositions in a variety of settings. February 11 FELTSATRONICS: THE LATIN SET—Faculty member Randy Felts, playing synthophone (MIDI sax ) will take the experi- mental textures of electronic wind synthesis into the rhythm of Central and South America for an evening of original Latin jazz compositions. Featured artists will include faculty members Ken Taft and Bob Stanton, guitars, Berklee alumnus Steven Barbosa, percus- sion, and Scott Amendola, drums. February 12 MARLENA SHAW — As part of Berklee’s Black History Month activ- ities, vocalist Marlena Shaw, who has performed with Count Basie and Sammy Davis, Jr., among others, presents a varied evening of songs in jazz, soul, pop, rock, and rhythm and blues styles assisted by faculty bassist Richard Evans and a faculty rhythm section.
