December 5 December 6 December 10 December 13 December 17 Berklee Performance Center Concerts FALL 1990 VOCAL SUMMIT/VOCAL JAZZ ENSEMBLE —Voicc Depart- ment faculty member Bob Stoloff leads the 12-voice Vocal Summit in a program of original free improvisation, a cappella vocals and theater picces. In the second half, faculty vocalist April Arabian leads the Vocal Jazz Ensemble in a variety of contemporary vocal arrangements both a cappella and accompanied by a four-piece rhythm scction in styles ranging from jazz to fusion. AN EVENING WITH THE BERKLEE RAINBOW BAND — Faculty trombonist/composer/arranger Phil Wilson leads the Berklee Rainbow Band in a program of jazz, fusion and rock origi- nals by outstanding student composers and arrangers. Featured will be instrumentalists Pat Loomis and Abe Laboriel, Jr., vocalists Sharina Jange and Cindy Tignor and the premiere of Phil Wilson’s “Wizard of Oz Suite” SEE ACROSS TO THE OTHER SIDE—THE BERKLEE REVERENCE GOSPEL ENSEMBLE — Traditional and contem- porary gospel music by Walter Hawkins, Richard Smallwood, Keith Pringle and others will be performed by Berklee’s Reverence Gospel Ensemble under the direction of Lori Roberts with faculty advisors Walter Beasley and Orville Wright. The choir will feature freshman vocalist Wilbur Nichols and a host of new faces, as well as an arrangement of “What Child Is This” by Orville Wright and an original composition by accompanist Dennis Montgomery 111 THE JAZZ/ROCK ENSEMBLE—TAKING CARE OF BUSINESS #74 1/4: WHO’S ON FIRST?—The Berklee Jazz/Rock Ensemble celebrates their eighteenth year by presenting a musical tribute to Pete Townsend’s rock opera Tommy. Under the direction of Jennifer Terry, in conjunction with Yo Team Productions, this musical tribute features several of the college’s talented rock vocalists as well as a driving rhythm section and six-piece horn section. ROCK ARRANGING: LIVE! —Commercial Arranging Depart- ment faculty members Lennie Peterson and Mirek Kocandrle present a showcase of the best writing from the course Rock Arranging for Live Performance. A student band will perform remakes of pop/rock songs in a variety of styles including folk, funk and heavy metal in settings ranging from small band to 16- picce ensemble with six vocalists, horns and full rhythm section.
