November 5 November 7 November 13 November 15 November 26 November 29 Berklee Performance Center Concerts FALL 1990 THE FIRST BOSTON SAXOPHONE WORKSHOP CONCERT —The Woodwind Department and the Saxopbone Journal host the first Boston Saxophone Workshop Concert featuring a program of contemporary music and jazz for the saxophone. Steve Mauk, a superb concert artist sponsored by the Selmer Company, will feature selections for saxophone and piano from his latest recording, and acclaimed faculty saxophonist George Garzone will provide an exciting evening of modern jazz in a quartet setting. STATE OF THE HEART #4—SONGWRITING DEPARTMENT FACULTY CONCERT—Songwriting Department Chairman Jack Perricone presents a stylistically diverse program of composi- tions by department faculty performed by a fine student ensemble, guest artist Rise Engerman and faculty artists John Aldrich, John Stevens, Jimmy Kachulis, Bob Weingart and Jack Perricone. CONCERT WIND ENSEMBLE/STRING ORCHESTRA — The 45-member Concert Wind Ensemble will perform pieces by Vaughn-Williams, Persichetti, Husa and Composition Department Chairman Jack Jarrett under the direction of faculty composer/ conductor Greg Fritze. In the second half, faculty composer/ conductor Dennis Leclaire directs the String Orchestra in a pro- gram of classical music by Mozart, Handel, Nielson and Purcell, with special guest faculty 'vocalist Luz Bermejo. COUNTRY NIGHT THE BERKLEE WAYNE SHORTER ENSEMBLE/THE BERKLEE JOHN SCOFIELD ENSEMBLE — Faculty bassist Bruno Raberg presents a seven-piece ensemble performing the contemporary jazz compositions of Wayne Shorter. In the second half, the post-bop electric and acoustic jazz compositions of John Scofield will be performed by a six-piece ensemble directed by faculty guitarist Rick Peckham. SINGER'’S SHOWCASE —Some of Berklee’s finest vocalists join together for a concert of arrangements written especially for this event in a variety of styles under the direction of Performance Studies faculty member Ken Zambello, in conjunction with Yo Team Productions.
