Music written by Music Svnthesis Department Chairman David Mash for the group Ictus is featured in the first half and compositions by Mike Stern and student composer Shigeyoshi Kawage will be performed by a rhythm-and-jazz ensemble in the second half. Double Concert — YOSHIHIRO ARITA / CURRENTS — Violin and banjo plaver Yoshihiro Arita opens this concert with 2 program of ethnic and jazz stvles with special guests faculty vibraphonist Victor Mendoza and String Department Chairman Matt Glaser. In the second half guitarist Benjamin Rodefer leads a quintet plaving jazz originals and compositions by Chick Corea. Steve Swallow and others. A SONG FOR YOU AND ME — Vocalist Linda Lorence and kevboardist Dave Limina co-lead this varied program of jazz, pop, and Broadway styles with compositions by Gershwin, Sondheim, Porter and others as well as original compositions and arrangements by Limina and Evie Nelson. METAL SHOP — AN EVENING OF “QUIET” MUSIC — Faculty guitarist Cliff Maddix presents his three heavy metal ensembles in an evening of original student rock compositions. ° Double Concert — MACUMAYE-AYE / SAUDADE — Opening this concert is bassist/composer Rafael Reina with an evening of originial contemporary funk and Afro-pop styles for a large ensemble. In the second half senior percussionist Michael Ringquist presents Afro- Brazilian music for rhythm section and vocals. CLARK TERRY / SLIDE HAMPTON — Jazz giants trumpeter Clark Terry and trombonist Slide Hampton culminate a three-day residency at Berklee with this concert featuring specially selected student ensembles performing a variety of jazz styles under the direction of these renowned musicians. SPRING AHEAD — Faculty composer/arranger Richard Grudzinski presents the Commercial Arranging Department’s spring concert featuring works by faculty members Bud Billings, Mark McGrain, Lennie Peterson, Ben Elkins, George Hargon, Richard Evans, Lisa Bernstein, Mirek Kocandrle and Grudzinski performed by an all- star faculty group. , BERKLEE CONCERT WIND ENSEMBLE — Contemporary classical music and the winning Concerto Competition composition will be performed by this ensemble under the direction of faculty composer/ tubist Gregory Fritze with concerto soloist Maki Ohnuki.
