March 27 March 28 March 30 April 3 April 4 April 6 Berklee Performance Center Concerts SPRING 1989 ’BONES!—Brass Department Chairman Tom Plsek presents an evening of performances by faculty, students and special guest trombonist Dave Taylor in an especially diverse collection of styles and idioms. Settings include solo trombone; piano, trombone and violin; trombone and digital sound processors and the Berklee Trom- bone Ensemble, directed by faculty member Phil Wilson. JAZZ & BLUES BARGAINS/LIAISON — Guitar Department faculty member Mike Williams opens this concert with a program of jazz and blues standards and originals performed by his quintet. In the second half, faculty guitarist Dave Askren presents pop-jazz originals per- formed by his sextet Liaison. THE CONCERT CHOIR/THE BERKLEE THELONIOUS MONK ENSEMBLE —The 48-voice Concert Choir, under the direction of faculty vocalist Anne Peckham, will perform a program of works by Brahms, Durufle, Bernstein and others. Faculty trumpeter Greg Hopkins will be featured in a performance of John Rutter’s “Gloria” accompanied by brass, percussion and organ. In the second half, faculty guitarist Rick Peckham presents the compositions of Thelonious Monk performed by a six-piece student ensemble. AN EVENING WITH THE BERKLEE RAINBOW BAND — Faculty composer/arranger/trombonist Phil Wilson presents the internationally diverse Rainbow Band performing original jazz fusion with compositions by Fabio Morgera, Igor Butman and Phil Wilson. VOCAL JAZZ ENSEMBLE/VOCAL SUMMIT—Voice Department faculty member April Arabian presents the twelve-voice Vocal Jazz Ensemble performing in a variety of styles from swing, bebop and contemporary funk to pop tunes and a cappella ballads. In the second half, the nine-piece a cappella group Vocal Summit, under the direc- tion of Voice Department faculty member Bob Stoloff, presents orig- inal works and compositions by Ellington, Mozart, Rimsky-Korsakov, Stevie Wonder and others. INTERNATIONAL FOLK MUSIC FESTIVAL—Yo Team Produc- tions and the Dean of Students Office present Berklee’s third annual International Music Night showcasing indigenous and traditional music from the many countries represented by the college’s diverse foreign population. The concert will be performed by a variety of ensembles in native dress and an international foods banquet after the show will complete the international experience. N o sy
