Brandon Lin is a trombonist, bassist, pianist, composer, and arranger. Born in Taiwan, music education for Brandon began with classical piano lessons. He started playing trombone and bass after he moved to British Columbia, Canada with his family, and was introduced to jazz when he joined the band program at Semiahmoo Secondary School where he met his trombone teacher and mentor, Faust Pinto. Brandon has won numerous awards as a performer and composer at festivals such as the Lionel Hampton Jazz Fest, Music Fest Canada, and Vancouver International Jazz Festival. His most recent highlight has been attending Betty Carter’s Jazz Ahead at the Kennedy Center. Brandon is currently in his final undergraduate semester at the Berklee College Music. Réya Wahab is a Lebanese violinist and composer. At age 9 she started studying classical music in the Lebanese National Conservatory. She was a part of the National Conservatory’s Children’s Orchestra and later joined the National Middle Eastern Student’s Orchestra. Réya is currently studying Film Scoring at Berklee College of Music. Being born and raised in Lebanon Réya finds inspiration for her music in memories from her childhood in Beirut and the mountains of Lebanon. Kayhan Kalhor is an Iranian Kurdish composer and Kamancheh player who was born in Tehran in 1963. He is an expert on Persian, Kurdish and Turkish music and also studied European classical music at Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada. He is currently based in the U.S.A. and performs frequently with Yo-Yo Ma and the Ensemble of the Silk Road Project. He has also worked with the Kronos Quartet. “The Silent City” was written in 2005 for Silk Road.
