Berklee Performance Center Concerts April 4 Rock Arranging Live - The best student arrangements of original and cover songs in the pop/rock idiom drawn from the Rock Arranging courses will be performed by specially selected student performers under the direction of faculty member Mirek Kocandrle. GUITAR WEEK April 5 Bret’s Frets/The Berklee John Scofield Ensemble - Bret Wilmott, Berklee guitar faculty member, leads his six-guitar student group through a program of original contemporary jazz compositions. In the second half Assistant Guitar Chair Rick Peckham leads a student group through the latest original compositions from Berklee alumnus John Scofield, including several selections from Scofield’s upcoming Blue Note release, I Can See Your House From Here. April 6 The Back Bay Brass Jazz Orchestra/Chord Scale Madness - Jazz Composition department faculty member Jackson Schultz showcases some of the strongest arrangements written by students while taking the course, “Voicings Derived from Chord Scales.” In various styles, all with a common jazz influence, the music will be performed by an 11-piece ensemble. In the second half, faculty trombonist/composer/arranger Ben Elkins presents the 19-piece Back Bay Brass Jazz orchestra performing Swing, Latin and fusion compositions and arrangements by Thad Jones and others. April 7 Andy Timmons/John Petrucci - Ibanez Artist/Clinician Andy timons, of Danger Danger presents a concert of electric music in a side range of styles. ‘Then Ibhanez Artist/Clinican John Petrucci, of Dream Theater, presents a concert of contemporary rock music with a surprse special guest. Tonights artists appear sponsored in part by Ibanez. April 8 Steve Morse - Steve Morse of the Dregs presents a program of contemporary music. April 9 Guitar Frenzy/The Jon Finn Band - Guitar deparment faculty members Bruce Bartlett, Jim Kelly, Rick Peckham, and Bruce Saunders perform contemporary instrumental music with faculty members Bruce Gertz, bass and Bob Tamagni, drums. Then faculty guitarist Jon Finn, New England Performer magazine's 1994 Performer of the Year, will play original rock with his group. April 11 Percussion Ensemble/World Beat Pop Ensemble - The first half of this Percussion Department concert features Percussion Unlimited in its 20th year as the college’s premier percussion ensemble. Compositions by David McBride, Ingred Marshall, Elliot Carter and Thom Hasenpflug will be performed and Assistant Professor Richard Flanagan will offer a performance of Ellito Carter's March for Four Timpani. In the second half the Berklee World Beat Percussion Orchestra, directed by Steve Wilkes and Casey Scheuerell, and composed of students from World Beat Pop Lab, will perform an eclectic blend of mind expanding, trance inducing dance inspire grooves from West Africa, South Africa, the Middle East, Brazil and Cuba.
