In the second half, faculty bassist Jeff Link directs his student ensemble through a program of contemporary jazz and fusion. SOUND ADVICE w/Anne Marie Moss—Commercial Arranging Department faculty Dennis Grillo presents a 25-piece ensemble with special guest jazz singer Anne Marie Moss performing concertized jazz and Latin styles. FELTSATRONICS MEETS THE W.S.0./THE BARBARA LONDON QUARTET — Faculty members Randy Felts and Mark Smith team up to present “pop music of orchestral dimensions” for synthesizers, percussion, electronic saxophone and prepared tape. In the sec- ond half, faculty flutist Barbara London presents jazz originals for her quintet. SEMAPHORE —New compositions for jazz musicians and pre- recorded tape will be performed by Semaphore, a Boston based group founded by faculty members Mark McGrain and Ben Schacter. Faculty pianist Christian Jacob and vocalist Dominique Eade will also be featured. XO—Original acoustic jazz compositions by faculty trombonist/ arranger Hal Crook will be performed by the group XO, a quintet with Crook, Jerry Bergonzi, tenor sax, Bernie Cabral, drums,and faculty members Christian Jacob, piano, and Bruce Gertz, bass. DONALD BYRD—As part of the Black Music Celebration at Berklee, famed jazz trumpeter Donald Byrd will perform backed by an all-star faculty group with Tommy Campbell, drums, and Bruce Barth, piano. Double Concert—SYMMETRY/MICHAEL BASDEN —In the first half student drummer Hans Schuman leads a trio in a program of acoustic jazz compositions by Thelonius Monk, Miles Davis, Wayne Shorter and others. Alto saxophonist Michael Basden then offers a program of high-energy improvisation on original composi- tions and music by John Coltrane, performed by his quartet. Double Concert—RENAISSANCE: THE NEXT PHASE/ RANDOM ABSTRACT —Alto saxophonist Andre Ward leads a quintet performing jazz originals. In the second half, trombonist Delfeayo Marsalis presents a program of straight-ahead jazz in a variety of settings.
