Concurrent Session | From Amadeus to Zappa: The Curious Life of Nicolas Slonimsky 7 Haviland Street, Room 310 Who was this Russian linguist and lexicographer who influenced Ives, Cowell, Coltrane, and Zappa? Author, composer, and conductor Nicolas Slonimsky traveled the world, collecting music and championing new works. As a theoretician, he wrote his legendry volume Thesaurus of Scales and Melodic Patterns, challenging composers to think in terms of symmetrical scales and pandiatonicism. This session will explore the life and contributions of this unique individual.
