Korina Davis After a year of begging her parents for lessons and being told to “just go play outside,” Korie Davis got her violin. She was five years old. Growing up in a family of athletes, her passion for the violin was surprising to her family. But after 20 years, studies at the Bob Cole Conservatory at California State University Long Beach; freelance performance and sessions in LA and Orange County; international travel to perform and teach music in Italy, South Korea, India, and Cambodia; performances with Earth Wind and Fire, the Emotions, Bastille, Andra Day, Dwayne Wiggins, and on TV shows such as The Ellen Show, and several film soundtracks, it’s fair to say it was not just a childish phase. Korina (Korie) Davis was born in the Bay Area, California. She started taking classical violin lessons in her hometown, Antioch, where she studied with Sonja Louis for 10 years. During this decade, she was a part of the Antioch Strolling Strings where she learned fiddle tunes and Irish jigs, performed in state competitions and honors orchestras, and also began studying cello. She later attended Oakland School for the Arts in Oakland, CA, exploring a broader variety of music genres, including hip-hop, r&b, and tango. Although she was accepted to Berklee College of Music to study violin performance in 2011, a few weeks before her move from California to Boston, plans changed and she was no longer able to attend. Instead, she moved to Southern California where she attended Fullerton College and eventually transferred CSULB, from which she graduated with honors in 2016. Also that year, Korie joined her best friend, violinist Laurann Estevez, in her business venture: Gemini Strings – a quartet that specializes in contemporary and pop arrangements and has quickly become in high demand in the Los Angeles area. In 2017, Korie moved to Valencia, Spain to finally realize her dream of studying at Berklee College of Music. She is currently working on her Master’s degree in Contemporary Music Performance and Production. Korie Davis got to play outside, and her violin too.
