Chris Black is a twenty-six year-old American musician, songwriter, and producer born and raised in Connecticut. While he feels most at home behind the drum kit, he also enjoys writing songs on the acoustic guitar and creating lush soundscapes using a variety of instruments and a loop station. Chris’s playing draws influence from a wide variety of styles, including hip-hop, jazz, fusion, metal, funk, world music, and electronica. He seeks to create intricate grooves while maintaining elements of space and explosiveness. In his compositions, Chris strives to elicit catharsis through haunting melodies, rhythmic drive, and esoteric lyrics. Chris first began playing drums when he was 10 years old after his uncle (a drummer himself) convinced his parents to get him his first drum set. He spent his years from elementary school through college teaching himself primarily by ear and playing with local bands in Philadelphia, New York City, and in his hometown of Darien. Having next to no formal musical education for the vast majority of his life, Chris once approached music as a hobby, something in which to privately find both immense joy and personal challenge. This all changed in 2018 after spending a year in Spain to earn a performance master's degree from Berklee College of Music. Chris has now given himself permission to forsake a “normal” life in pursuit of his dreams of becoming a performing artist.
