Larry Klein Larry Klein is a multiple Grammy Award-winning American record producer, songwriter, and musician, who has worked with some of the most important artists in popular music, including Peter Gabriel, Bonnie Raitt, Wayne Shorter, Tracy Chapman, Bob Dylan, Madeleine Peyroux, and Joni Mitchell, with whom he collaborated on several Grammy Award-winning and nominated albums. He was nominated for the third time for Producer of the Year, Non-Classical, in the 2019 Grammys. Klein also produced Herbie Hancock's River: The Joni Letters, featuring Tina Turner, Norah Jones, Joni Mitchell, Corinne Bailey Rae, Leonard Cohen and others, which in 2007 became only the second jazz album ever to win Album of the Year. Klein's omnivorous and restless creative impulse has drawn him into adventurous multi-artist projects such as 2014's Map to the Treasure: Reimagining Laura Nyro, a collaboration with Billy Childs featuring Renée Fleming, Rickie Lee Jones, Yo-Yo Ma, Alison Krauss, Esperanza Spalding, and others; and The Passion of Charlie Parker, a suite of Parker songs assembled with David Baerwald that chronicle the jazz giant's life and feature a host of esteemed musical collaborators. He has ventured into the Portuguese world of fado with singer Ana Moura; their first collaboration, Desfado, has become one of the best- charting album by a Portuguese artist in the country's history. Klein has also written music for the Allison Anders films Sugartown and Grace of My Heart, which was produced by Martin Scorsese, and has performed on numerous film scores, including Robbie Robertson's score for the Scorsese classic Raging Bull, and Randy Newman's Toy Story score. During the last year alone Klein produced his second album for Norwegian artist Thomas Dybdahl, entitled All These Things; his fourth album with Madeleine Peyroux entitled Anthem; an album for Sony UK by new artist Hailey Tuck; and a new album by his wife, the Brazilian vocalist and musician Luciana Souza, entitled The Book Of Longing. Other recent projects range from jazz/soul artist Kandace Springs's Soul Eyes to concert pianist Lang Lang's crossover album New York Rhapsody, which featured R&B artist Andra Day, singer-songwriter Jason Isbell, vocalist Lisa Fischer, and actor Jeffrey Wright. Klein continues his prolific pace through 2018 with Jeff Goldblum's new jazz album, The Capitol Studios Sessions, and a forthcoming Jacques Brel tribute album featuring Marianne Faithfull and a cross-section of great French artists.
