They have a technique that allows them to freely explore the full breadth of expressive devices available to them on a grand piano: dynamics, pedaling, articulation, tempo, phrasing, etc. They also must have a musical imagination, so that they can interpret, improvise, and shape music in a creative way."— Stephany Tiernan Join us for a conversation on contemporary piano technique and teaching with one of Berklee’s masters, as professor (and former chair) Stephany Tiernan from the Piano Department shares stories and insight from her years studying with the legendary Madame Chaloff and how those studies influenced her in the classroom. Tiernan is a renowned pianist, composer, and performer of 20th-century piano music. She received her Bachelor of Music from Berklee and her Master of Music from New England Conservatory. She has been an accompanist for numerous instrumental, dance, and vocal performances. Tiernan demonstrates an outstanding commitment to continuous professional growth and integrity in the classroom.
