Berklee Performance Center Concerts February 9 - Saxophones of the Future - Faculty saxophonist George Garzone presents “Saxophones of the Future,” showcasing his students saxohponists Robert Stillman, Grant Langford, Patrick Cornilius, Walt Smith Iil, Wayne Escoffery, and rhythm section of Akiko Iwase, piano, Damion Reid and Sebastion DeKrom, drums performing jazz in the style of Sonny Rollins and John Coltrane. February 10- The Plerrot Lunaire Ensemble - Faculty vocalist Robin Ginenthal presents the third concert of The Pierrot Lunaire Ensemble. The concert includes performances of Eleven Basho Haiku by faculty composer Marti Epstein and A Net of Fireflies by Vincent Persichetti both for voice and piano as well as Igor Stravinsky's Three Japanese Lyrics, Maurice Ravel’s Three Poems of Stéphane Mallarmé, and Maurice Delage’s Four Hindu Poems for chamber ensemble. Faculty performers include Robin Ginenthal, soprano, Marti Epstein and Louis Stewart, piano, and David Callahan, conductor. February 11 - Black History Month Music Celebration-DeAma Battle/Rumbafrieca DeAmma Battle and the Art of Black Dance and Music presents a performance of African-rooted dance, music and folklore. Then Tshibangu Kakima and Rumbafrica present music and dances from the Congo incorporating the sweet vocal harmo- nies and lilting dance rhythms of classic Congolese rumba as well as the non- stop beat of modern soukous. Guitar theatrics, percussion breakdowns and traditional dancing are all part of Rumbafica’s stage show. February 16 - Bryan Oliver/It Ain’ Over 'Til Its Over - Saxophonist Bryan Oliver presents his band in an evening of original pop, jazz, and funk. Then vocalist Maureen Murphy offers an evening of Rhythm & Blues, pop, funk and gospel with featured soloists Bryan Oliver, saxophone and Brent Irvine, trumpet. Other performers include Cathy Chalmers, percussion, Charlie Paxson, drums, Chris Joerger, guitar, E.J. Smith, keyboards and musical director Arthur Blume. Faculty member Dennis Montgomery and the Reverance Gospel Ensesmble and back- ground vocalist Tiffany White, Nicole Jones, Bethany Wright and Erin Vulgamore will also be featured. February 17 - Trichy Sankaran - Percussion Department presents visiting Artist Trichy Sankaran. Professor Sankaran is a world-renowned percussion virtuoso, Indian music scholar, and composer. He has concertised widely in India, South- East Asia, Europe, Australia and North America. In addition to his usual tradi- tional settings, he has performed with Gamelan, Jazz, Electronic and African music ensembles and has concertised on four continents with Nexus and World drums.
