Berklee Performance Center Concerts April 16 — Phil Wilson’s Rainbow Band 40" Anniversary Concert: A Berklee Jazz Festival — Phil Willson celebrates 40 years at the helm of his student big band with a variety of guest soloists who've performed with the band over the years. During the celebration, the college will present an honorary doctor of music degree to Phil Wilson. Making a special appearance with the 19-piece Rainbow Band will be the jazz vocal group Syncopation, featuring student vocalists Christy Bluhm ‘04, Tsunenori “Lee” Abe ‘04, Jeremy Ragsdale ‘05, and faculty trumpeter/vo- calist Christine Fawson ‘02, as well as alumna vocalist Alisa Miles ‘02. The con- cert will feature arrangements by Phil Wilson, Tsunenori “Lee” Abe ‘04, and Makoto Ozone '83. April 22 — Singers Showcase - Berklee's premiere vocal event offers a variety of styles and musical settings for some of the college’s exceptional singers. The featured student vocalists are Christy Bluhm, Natalie Stovall, Jeremy Ragsdale, Stacy Baker, Rachel Loy, Andrew Douglass, Sarah Johnson, and Evan Baughman. They will be performing the music of Natalie Cole, Nelly Furtado, Linda Eder, Billy Joel, Christina Aguilera, The Dixie Chicks, and others. The concert will also feature special guest Voice Faculty and Showcase Alumni Gwen Leathers. April 26 — Hallelujah! Amen! An Evening of Gospel Music - An evening of con- temporary and traditional gospel music performed by Berklee’s Reverence Gospel Ensemble directed by faculty member Dennis Montgomery lIl. Berklee's small gos- pel ensemble, Overjoyed, will also perform. April 27 — Chord Scale/Urban Outreach Jazz Orchestra - Under the direction of Jazz Composition department faculty member Jackson Schultz, some of the stron- gest student arrangements from the “Voicings Derived from Chord Scales” course will be performed by a large ensemble. Then Ensemble department faculty mem- ber Lin Biviano presents big band jazz in the style of the Count Basie, Woody Herman, Maynard Ferguson and Buddy Rich Bands. This year’s concert features several compositions by student tenor saxophone player Johann Pyykko. April 28 — The Berklee Concert Jazz Orchestra - Faculty member Greg Hopkins directs this big band in a program of contemporary jazz. April 30 — Pat Metheny - Visiting Professor Pat Metheny is producing a record for a Berklee student group. In the first half of the concert, he and the group perform selections from the recording.
