November 16 November 19 November 23 November 24 Berklee Performance Center Concerts FALL 1992 BERKLEE CONCERT WIND ENSEMBLE—This 45-piece ensemble, under the direction of Assistant Chair of the Compositon Department Gregory Fritze consists of woodwinds, brass, and percussion. They will perform a concert of twentieth century music for winds including works by Gustav Holst, Dimitri Shostakovich, Ron Nelson, Fred Fox, and Vincent Persichetti. SINGERS SHOWCASE—In its 10th year, the Performance Studies Department’s Yo Team Productions presents eight of Berklee’s finest vocalists performing the music of Billy Joel, Aretha Franklin, Barbra Streisand, Peter Gabriel, and many others in a variety of instrumental settings and arrangements written especially for this event. SYNCHRONICITY—Film Scoring Department Assistant Chair Michael Rendish directs an evening of original music originally written for film and television by Film Scoring Department faculty members Jonathan Klein, David Spear, Michael Rendish, and Don Wilkins will be pre- sented in a fresh format featuring multiple keyboards, winds/saxes, brass and rhythm section. A diverse collection of musical styles will include jazz, Latin, fusion, and new age with guest performers drawn from the Berklee faculty. A portion of the program will feature a David Spear arrangement of music by the late film composer Georges Delerue in honor of a new scholarship that will be offered to Film Scoring majors in his name. THE BERKLEE THELONIOUS MONK ENSEMBLE/THE JAZZ FUSION BIG BAND—An octet under the direction of Guitar Depart- ment Assistant Chair Rick Peckham will perform seven Thelonious Monk compositons including a group-transcribed Monk solo on Epistrophy. In the second half, faculty trumpeter/composer/arranger Brian Lewis directs the Jazz Fusion Big Band in contemporary works by artists such as Bob Mintzer, Matt Harris and Lewis as well as compositions by Brecker Brothers, Weather Report, Chick Corea, Tower of Power, and others.
