Metropolis Conducted by Martha Bourne Metropolis is Fritz Lang’s highly experimental (and hugely expen- sive) 1927 scifi film. It is the result of a collaboration with his wife, Thea von Harbou, who wrote the script for the film. An alle- gory that examines the conflict between good and evil in the modern machine-age, this film depicts Lang's vision of the year 2000. His prophecy of the struggle for individualism and com- passion in the post-industrial-age is remarkably compelling and still relevant in 1999. This project is a collaborative effort on the part of nine Berklee Film Scoring majors who collectively have written an original score to accompany the film.
