Berklee Performance Center Concerts Percussion Week April 3 - An American Diary with Peter Erskine/Tony Williams & Alan Dawson: Master & Mentor - As part of Percussion Week activities, Drummer Peter Erskine with Mike Mainieri, vibraphone, George Garzone, saxophone and John Lockwood, bass, present a panoramic view of the American spirit and musical life by constructing a patchwork of jazz compositions built upon the works of Aaron Copland, Leonard Bernstein and others. Then faculty drummer Kenwwod Dennard presents a solo concert in musical tribute to master drummer the late Tony Williams and the great percussionist and mentor, the late Alan Dawson. April 4 - Dave DiCenso with the Jon Finn Group/Johnathan Mover & Einstein - This Percussion week concert begins with The Jon Finn Group featuring faculty members Dave DiCenso, drums, Joe Santerre, bass and Jon Finn, guitar performing original instrumental rock. April 5 - Six Drumsets with Steve Wilkes/Horacio Hernandez with Phil Wilson & The Berklee Rainbow Band - Led by percussion faculty member Steve Wilkes, Six Drumsets features faculty member Jon Hazilla and alumni Marko Djordjevic, Takeshi Ichikawa, Johnny Rabb and Johan Svensson playing acoustic and elec- tronic drumkits in a dynamic drum symphony. Wityh influences including Steve Reich, Philip Glass, Mark Isham, Brian Eno and Gary Chaffee the music is de- scribed as “World Beat with Hip-Hop and Jungle grooves ... jazz with a rock edge, ...electronic techno with ambient textrues...drums that sing! In the second half Horacio Hernandez teams up with Phil Wilson and the Berklee Rainbow band for a set of hot Latin and fusion compositions. April 7 - Songwriters Night - The singer/songwriter is at the center of today’s popular music and The 14th annual Songwriters Night Concert is intended to reflect this. Featuring the twelve winning songs of the college wide Songwriting Contest, most of this year’'s winners are Songwriting majors or are Professional Music majors with a concentrate in Songwriting. The stylistic range of the songs is fairly broad - from folk to Alternative/Hard-Rock- and most of the songs have been arranged and will be sung by the songwriters themselves. April 8 - The Berklee Concert Jazz Orchestra The Performance Center at Berklee College of Music is a Ticketmaster outlet.
