Virtuoso playing and delicate soundscapes from U.S.-based Scots harpist,
Maeve Gilchrist. The Ostinato Project originated as a concept for Gilchrist's
first solo harp album, a recording intended to explore and celebrate the
harp. The work is made up of several compositions and the occasional cover
focusing on separating the voices and utilizing both hands fully in order to
create texture, color, and beauty.

MAEVE GILCHRST BIOGRAPHY

Maeve Gilchrist was born and raised in Edinburgh, Scotland. Daughter to an
Irish mother and Scottish father she grew up immersed in traditional folk
music. At an early age Maeve was accepted into the City of Edinburgh Music
School where she spent seven years studying classical piano, pedal harp and
clarsach (Celtic harp). From her early teens, Maeve was an in-demand member
of the traditional music scene in Scotland where she performed at events such
as the opening of the Scottish Parliament and the Celtic Connections festival
before receiving a full scholarship from the Berklee College of Music at the
age of seventeen.

Credited as an innovator on her native Celtic harp due to her uniquely
chromatic way of using the instrument, Maeve has performed and recorded
with artists such as Esperanza Spalding, Kathy Mattea, Tony Trishka, Darol
Anger, Vardan Ovsepian, Numinous and Roger Tallroth.

Currently based in Boston, Maeve tours internationally as a band leader, soloist
and in collaboration with a variety of musicians spanning the new

acoustic and improvisation scenes. She has a duo project with percussive
dancer Nic Gareiss and plays regularly with fiddle wizard Darol Anger. Her
latest solo adventure is called 'The Ostinato Project' and is an exploration

of the harp with a focus on separating the hands as individual instruments.

Maeve is an Adventure Music recording artist and will be releasing her second
record on the label in the spring of 2014. She is the first lever harpist to

be employed as an instructor by the Berklee College of Music’s string
department and has written a folk harp method book, published by Hal
Leonard Music.
